Year 8 student Emma Hanger has been commended for the voluntary work she carries out for Volleyball England. She has helped out at numerous events over the past five months and has also written an article that was published on the organisation’s website.
Emma said: ‘It started when I went to watch a game at the National Volleyball Centre in Kettering. There was a tournament on the next weekend so I volunteered to help. I do all sorts of jobs from mopping floors to keeping a record of the scores. It is quite friendly and a lot of fun.
'There are lots of different teams and mixed teams that play. We even have international players from places like Egypt and Russia for the big tournaments. Events can last anywhere from five hours up to three or four days! I was asked to write an article about the different teams and the Sitting Grand Prix Event and that was published on the Volleyball England website.'
Ilona Berry, the National Volunteer and Leadership Development Officer for Volleyball England said: ‘Emma is a real credit to your school. She was very quick to learn what was required in the events and performed all roles allocated to her to a very high standard. Emma rapidly fitted into the team working with a range of people and was friendly, cheerful and polite.’
