Do you have a child at Brooke Weston? Would you like to become more involved in the development and direction of the Academy? If so, please consider standing as Parent Governor, a vital role in the Governing Body.
Parent Governors are expected to attend at least three out of the four annual Governors meetings and are supported by experienced members of the Governing Body, the Principal and the Clerk to the Governors.
To be eligible you must have parental responsibility for a student on the school roll at the time of election. Parent Governors normally serve for a period of three years, regardless of whether their child leaves school during the intervening period, although the post may be resigned at any time. Parent Governors are subject to the normal CRB checks.
If you would like to stand for the post of Parent Governor, that runs from March 2012, then complete and return the nomination and declaration forms that will have been given to your son or daughter. Parents may also include any additional details they wish to be circulated in the event that there are more nominations than vacancies. In this case an election will be held, in which all parents can vote in a secret ballot.
Principal Trish Stringer said: ‘Parent Governors play an important role in the life of the school as they give fellow Governors and management a vital insight into parental views on key issues. We would like all those who are eligible to seriously consider whether they can serve in this role and, if so, we welcome nominations and may hold an election in due course. Parent Governors need no previous experience as they will receive guidance and support. It is a really interesting and valuable role and one that many parents have fulfilled admirably over the years.’
