Eight members of the support staff at Brooke Weston have undertaken NVQs as part of their professional development. The eight; Ivan Chan, Sandra Childs, Debbie Faller, Rhonda Fosbrook, Barry Gibb, Christine Gray, Jazz Saini and Paul Twamley completed NVQs in Management, Customer Service and Accounting. Most said that the courses were relevant to their College roles and, although initially daunting, they soon got back into the swing of studying.
IT support technician, Ivan said: 'The NVQ has helped me look at my role within the college in a different light. It shifted the focus from technical skills to customer service skills, which although can be overlooked sometimes, is also an integral part in good IT Support.'
Barry said: 'the course has given me renewed confidence in my abilities as a effective manager and a valuable understanding of the daily work within the Senior Management Team.'
'The NVQ has helped me look at my role within the college in a different light.'
Jazz, who works for CTC Trading said: "It became quite enjoyable and has prepared me to complete the next level or succeed in a different NVQ related to my work.'
Rhonda didn't know if her customer service course would be relevant to her but she didn't have any problems completing the work.
Senior Lab Manager Sandra said: 'it was encouraging to formally recognise the skills I already use on a daily basis without realising it. It is over 20 years since I completed any formal studying and initially found it daunting but with support from our tutor and each other I soon settled into studying mode.'
Most completed their courses within a few months but for Debbie Faller it was the final instalment in an accounting NVQ which has taken four years to complete. Congratulations to all of them on their hard work.
