Students got the inside track on automotive careers during a presentation at Rockingham Speedway. The track, together with Education Enterprise Foundation put on the day-long event that included workshops, displays and details of courses available. Exhibitors included Perkins, Babcock and The Army.
A total of 31 students from Years 10, 11 and the Sixth Form went to the event, accompanied by Mr Barrett. He said: ‘It was all to do with encouraging people into the motor industry or engineering. They got to go in to Range Rovers and police cars, there was a bus and lorry going around the track and the AA was doing a drive around the inner track in dual control cars. If they were keen on motor vehicles then the students got a lot out of it, including some of the girls, one of whom wants to get into the PR side of motor racing.’
Student Abigail Knight said: 'The highlight of the trip was going on the cars, it was like we were actually able to drive, then we were allowed to be driven round the track, which was really good fun'
