Remy Pask and Paige Spittle from 11B are just two of our students who enjoyed their work experience placements this year. Here's why:
Remy Pask gained an insight into the intricacies of camera make-up when she completed her ten days at a local portrait studis. Thomas B photography offers a range of services including makeover photo-shoots where clients have their hair and make-up arranged before a photo-session. Remy, who wants a career in the beauty industry, helped out.
She said: ‘When clients came in for photographs I was shown techniques to make the face up for camera work. I am planning to do health and beauty courses after my GCSEs and the work experience was really rewarding. I haven’t thought about what I would like to specialise in but it would be great to be a make-up artist working on film or television productions.’
Paige Spittle’s work experience led to a job working with animals. Paige, who wants a career as a veterinary nurse, worked at kennels near Burton Latimer and got on so well that she is now being paid to work there. During her placement at the kennels she helped to care for up to 90 dogs as well as cats and rabbits.
She said: ‘I had to make up dog feeds, clean up kennels, wash bowls, work in reception, observe the administration of medication and hydrotherapy where dogs with conditions like hip dysplasia swim in a special pool. I really enjoyed it and was really pleased when the manager called and offered me a weekend job.’
