Lewis Still got on so well with his work experience that he has been offered an apprenticeship with construction company, Sir Robert McAlpine. Lewis joined the company’s site in Kettering for two weeks where he helped to maintain vehicles including dumper trucks and industrial forklifts.
After finishing his GCSEs, including fast track science and engineering next year, Lewis will start the two-year apprenticeship and hopes eventually to combine his work with studying for an engineering degree.
He said: ‘Sir Robert McAlpine is a massive construction company with projects and offices all over the country. It was great work experience. I was with a former student from Brooke Weston who is employed there and I learned a lot from him.
‘I worked on about six or seven vehicles over the two weeks, oiling them and carrying out basic maintenance tasks. It was quite messy and tiring being on your feet all day but I really like having hands-on tasks and I want a career that involves engineering or mechanics. I am really pleased to have been offered the apprenticeship.’
