Year 11 student Georgina Ellam-Lloyd had an unusual work experience placement recently at a local tattoo and piercing studio. She worked at That Studio in Rockingham Road, greeting clients, booking appointments and seeing how a busy body art studio operates.
Georgina’s dad is a tattooist and she wants to follow in the family tradition. She said: ‘I have been brought up with it. I love art and think tattoos are really pretty. I am always drawing at home and watch programmes like Miami Ink. Everyone knows I am really into body art so it was quite normal for me to do my work experience in a tattoo studio.
‘I had to answer the phones and make appointments and tea for the clients, who were really chatty and lovely. The tattooists drew up their designs freehand and people came in for piercings. At the end I would clean the equipment and it was all incredibly hygienic and professional. I learned exactly what it is like being in a busy shop environment. It was very interesting and my mum and dad were really proud.’
