Year 10 student Jono Taylor is completing two weeks’ work in Brooke Weston’s library, gaining plenty of customer service experience.
Jono was originally earmarked to work with the groundsmen but the recent bad weather meant that he was transferred indoors to help Mrs Adams and Mr Jones.
He said: ‘I thought that was great because I have got an interest in books, especially autobiographies, like those by Russell Brand and Chris Moyles. I like to find out about the individual and what they have been through.
‘I have been processing books, labelling and stamping them and making sure they are re-shelved. I have also been signing the laptops in and out. It is kind of odd because I get different reactions from my friends who are in lower years.
‘A few friends of mine are doing their work experience in cafes and shops and they are enjoying it as well. I have learned a lot about actual work and getting into a routine. I haven’t had a proper job yet but this experience will stand me in good stead.
‘As a career I would like to do some kind of design work in fashion or furniture and I would definitely recommend work experience. It is enjoyable and you get a lot of satisfaction from being busy and actually working in a real-life situation.’
