Show-jumper Alicia Keen has been given a ‘shining star’ accolade for the dedication she puts into her sport. Alicia, who attends the Northamptonshire and Cambridgeshire Academy, was nominated by her coach and was featured on the British Showjumping website.
She was up against stiff competition from all the other regional academies around the country and is delighted at the award, given to those who show ‘commitment, progression and outstanding behaviour along with their riding ability and much more.’ One person from the whole country is selected each month.
Alicia’s most recent competition was in the Junior Academy Under-18 section of the British Championships in Norfolk and she is also lined up to compete at the British Novice Championships in August.
She said: ‘I spend hours with my new horse, Prancer and get up at six in the mornings to go to the stables and also ride most evenings and weekends. Prancer is really cute and has a lovely jump. My trainer Mia Korenika put me forward for the award and I was really pleased but surprised when I heard I had been named.’
