Year 8 tutor groups are competing to make the most impressive wooden snake as part of their DT curriculum. The snake theme continues across two disciplines this term with the students also making ‘cake snakes’ in food technology.
For both projects the students have adopted an ‘assembly line’ process where they split into groups and work on dedicated tasks. Conor Smith leads the 8N tutor group who have christened their creation ‘Jumbo Jim.’ It comprises 35 segments, each of which have been cut to a pattern, sanded and joined together to make an articulated body. It will be decorated with textiles and Marco Geranio is to make the head and tail that will be attached by pieces of dowel.
Conor said: ‘It is basically a competition between the tutor groups to see who can make the best snake. We decided who was assigned to each task by seeing what they were best at. This is a true group project.’
