Students from two year groups joined forces to raise more than £220 for Help for Heroes. The 7W tutor group organised a quiz and sourced the prizes while Year 9 students made hundreds of mouth-watering snacks and treats.
Miss Letchet had two classes who made the refreshments as part of the Bronze CREST award. They prepared ten savoury and ten sweet dishes including spring rolls, garlic dough balls, chocolate fudge cake, flapjacks and truffles.
Mr Murphy acted as quizmaster for the event, which was held in the restaurant attracting both student and staff teams. There were seven rounds with categories including films, sport, history and famous people. While the scores were added four members of 7W sang songs to entertain the contestants. The event raised £221.25, a sum which will be boosted by the sale of Help for Heroes wristbands which are still available from the Finance Office.
Team 1 came first with 60 points and they were awarded four cinema tickets. Three and a Half Men came second with 59 points and won tickets for Laser Maze. The third place was hotly contested with three teams having to take part in a tie break question which Jamaican Bacon won and they also received tickets for Laser Maze.
Miss Liston, 7W’s tutor said: ‘My tutees wrote letters to lots of businesses telling them about the event and we had many prizes donated. Odeon Cinema and Laser Maze kindly donated tickets. Tesco donated a voucher that we used to buy bags of sweets so that every team won a prize. West Lodge Rural Centre and Corby Swimming Pool also donated prizes that we used in the raffle. We had other items donated from smaller companies that we also used for raffle prizes. My tutees will be writing thank you letters to all of these companies.’
