Students made a snake out of brightly coloured cakes as part of a two-pronged design technology project. All Year 8 tutor groups are making, decorating and arranging cup cakes and also creating snakes from wooden blocks which they will have to cut, drill, sand and paint. Both projects will be done on an assembly line basis with students earmarked to tackle just one part of the production process.
8B was the first tutor group to create their own orange and purple cake snake under the watchful eye of team leader Henry Griffiths. The students were given specific tasks of weighing, mixing, baking, icing and assembling. Henry said: ‘It has gone quite well and we stayed on schedule. Now we are looking forward to sampling what we have made!
Food technology teacher Ms Letchet said: ‘They worked really well as a tutor group. The hardest thing they found was the quality control, making the cakes all the same shape and size. They only had one lesson to plan then one lesson to bake so it was a bit of a challenge to get it completed. 8B managed to make 130 cakes so they have set the benchmark for the other Year 8 tutor groups!’
