Students worked with professional actors before seeing them in their latest production at the Cube. Tom Vernel and James Buchanan, members of the cast of Blackout, led our Year 10 GCSE students for the workshop.
The play, performed by ThickSkin Theatre Company, was based on a true story of an attempted murder planned by a 15-year-old. It inspired our students to use movement and gesture, rather than a script, to convey meaning.
Teacher Miss Bailey said: ‘The students were a little worried initially as it was physical theatre and movement but they really enjoyed it and got lots of different ideas about how to start with a script. We saw the actors that evening at the Cube and watched their version of Blackout. It was fascinating as the students had already explored the themes and issues earlier, so watching it on stage made it all the more real. The performance was very intense and gripping.‘
