Students worked under the instruction of two professionals during a workshop devoted to musical theatre. Holly McBride, resident associate artist with Royal & Derngate, and Matt Greenwood, a freelance musician, spent two half days with the students, who were selected due to their vocal and dance talents, and were mostly from Years 9 to 13.
They started with a version of Coldplay’s 'Fix You' and then Mr Greenwood created a mash-up of 'I Gotta Feeling' by the Black Eyed Peas and Take That’s 'The Greatest Day'. After their tuition some of the students attended a ‘slam’ event at the Cube where they performed what they had learned.
Teacher Miss Duguid said: ‘We selected some of the strongest singers who are also comfortable with dance; those who are quite serious about doing musical theatre outside of school or are considering studying it at university. Holly and Matthew have been brilliant and have worked really well with the students.’
Ms McBride, who choreographed the students said: ‘They have been fantastic, it has been an absolute joy working with them. They learned really quickly and their attitude was wonderful. It has been a co-operative process, they had lots of ideas to contribute.’
