Two dance students recently performed a specially arranged piece at the Curve theatre in Leicester. Ruby Noble and Jordan Byrne, both from Year 11, were selected to perform their ‘dance-theatre’ at the U.Dance East Midlands event, and also attended a workshop masterminded by dancer Martin Lawrence from the Richard Alston Dance Company.
Teacher Miss Duguid choreographed the routine, specifically with Ruby and Jordan in mind. She said: ‘To apply to perform at the Curve event we had to film the dance and send off application forms. They contacted us to say they really liked the work as a duet and it was really unusual for them to see that kind of work from this age group.
‘During the day they did a workshop which was fast-paced and quite hard work but I was so proud because Ruby and Jordan were technically keeping up with the pace and teacher. They were concentrating and working to the best of their ability. I was really proud and so pleased they could keep up in that kind of atmosphere. It was a fabulous opportunity for them.
‘The workshops were a great chance for them to recap on their technical ability and think about what it would be like to perform. They performed onstage in the second half of the show and used the space beautifully. They were perfect on stage and loads of people came over to say how wonderful they thought it was.’
