Year 7 students are learning the basics of website construction during their IT lessons. They are all designing and writing their own web pages using the Dreamweaver package in a month-long project.
The students have to decide what goods they want to sell on a theoretical BW shop site, then write and design the website. Murat Akpunar of 7W said: ‘I am going to sell games, CDs and DVDs. You have to plan where you are going to put your title, text and images and logo.’
Head of IT, Mr Dave Clarke said: ‘All the Year 7s are creating their own series of web pages all linked together using techniques such as flash buttons, flash text, image maps and some quite advanced techniques. We also incorporate esafety every single term, basically making sure they know how to be safe on the internet. With this topic that means making sure credit card details are safe and talking about issues of trustworthiness. Obviously in this module we just touch the surface but if the students want to go further and develop their web skills we can show them things like how to integrate live web pages like Google maps and embed them into their actual web pages’.
