Three teachers from Brooke Weston have taken part in a 10K charity run. Mrs Angela Brown, Miss Beth Dunn and Mr Mark Bidwell took part in the Comic Relief race at Market Harborough.
For Miss Dunn and Mrs Brown it was the first time they had completed that distance though it was the third 10K outing for Mr Bidwell. All three teachers started running with the Brooke Weston Runners who train after school on Wednesdays. The event, which started and ended at Welland Park, attracted a few hundred people, many of whom did either a one mile or 5K run.
Mr Bidwell said: ‘The worst thing was when you were on your second lap and there were people from the 5K race walking away with their medals and we had one more circuit to go. About 30 runners took part in the 10K distance. Easily the best thing about running is you forget everything. I don’t think I would be running now if it wasn’t for the Brooke Weston runners.’
Mrs Brown said: ‘After starting running with the Brooke Weston runners I now run twice a week doing 5K each time. In the preparation for the race I increased that to 8K but this was the first time I have completed the 10K distance and I have now got two similar races lined up later this year.’
Miss Dunn added: ‘With running you have to be self-motivated and push yourself. Having the motivation of someone else there with you makes a big difference. Running clears your head but also it is really good to see how you improve your stamina. Having completed this first race it means I now have a time to beat for the next one in June.’
