About 75 students from local primary schools took part in sports activities in the hall at Brooke Weston. The students, from Cottingham Primary, Oakley Vale and Corby Old Village schools, were supervised by 12 of Brooke Weston’s Young Sports Leaders. They are Sixth Formers who have trained as sports leaders under the IEC diploma and who are putting their theory skills into practice.
They arranged the equipment, supervised the Year 5 and 6 students and made sure that the event, which included sprint races and relays, ran smoothly. Sports teacher Mr Gillespie said: ‘These events give the primary students a chance to take part in a range of sports in a larger venue than they might be used to and it gives our Sports Leaders valuable experience, especially as some of them are considering a career in teaching.’
