Readers from Brooke Weston and Corby Business Academy are competing for a sweet prize in an inter-academy competition. Students from Years 7, 8 and 9 from both schools can choose books from the accelerated readers scheme run by Renaissance Learning.
Books are graded on their level of difficulty meaning students can select those appropriate to their level. Once completed they then take part in online quizzes and the school whose students pass the most quizzes in one month will win the prize of a kilogram of chocolate.
The competition is open to Year 8 students from both schools although students from any of the year groups can take part in the quizzes.
Mr Wilson said: ‘This competition is great for school collaboration between Brooke Weston and CBA but it is also great as it is encouraging the students at both schools to read. Obviously the very nature of the competition is that it is Brooke Weston versus Corby Business Academy so inevitably it is generating some light-hearted rivalry between the two schools. I love it.’
Librarian Mrs Adams said: ‘The quizzes are quite general and multiple choice and new ones are added every month. We will have prizes for the best tutor group from each school and will have a chart showing the totals.’
