Former student Matthew Brown has secured an apprenticeship with Cummins Inc, the world's largest designer and manufacturer of diesel engines.
As well as working at the firm's Wellingborough plant, he will also attend Stephenson College in Coalville on block release five times a year to gain an NVQ 2 and VRQ 3 in Engineering.
Matthew, who has just completed his GCSEs at Brooke Weston, said: 'The apprenticeship was advertised in the local paper and there were two interviews, with Cummins and Stephenson College, as well as several practical activities that we had to do.'
'The most valuable thing I will gain will be having served an apprenticeship with Cummins, a multi-national organisation. There is no reason why I couldn't work my way up and be a manager at some point. Design Technology is a subject I really enjoy and I try to excel at and I won two prizes at Prizegiving for it. Cummins are really eager to push us on, it's a great opportunity. I enjoy being pushed and having to think about how to solve things, it's definitely the practical side I'm better at and I'm really grateful to both Mr Barrett and Mr Primmett for all their help.'
Mr Primmett, careers adviser, added: 'Matthew has secured an outstanding career opportunity which could lead to a degree in engineering and ultimately, a role in technical management. I understand that half of this company's apprenticeship intake for this year has been filled by Brooke Weston students.'
