Miss Blencowe is ecstatic after completing her first triathlon in an impressive time of just one hour 24 minutes.
The event, which attracted over 500 competitors, was held at Duston near Northampton. It was organised by sports events company, Just Racing, and comprised a 400m swim, 20k bike ride and 5k run. Miss Blencowe had been training hard beforehand, but had a complete rest the week before so she was in peak condition.
She said: 'It was a big thrill. I was on a high for days; I think I still am. I've wanted to do a triathlon for ages. I've done a couple of 10k races before but nothing like this.'
She had to register the day before so got a good chance to look at the start of the course. Competitors start at the swimming pools in 'waves' according to their swim times, then they have to run to the bikes where their safety helmets and trainers are stored. As safety and security is paramount they have to don their helmets before touching their bikes otherwise they are automatically disqualified.
Miss Blencowe said: 'It's all about safety and everything is numbered: your bike, your hat and your hand which is good because there are lot of really expensive bikes there so you can't get out of the bike area unless everything matches.
'It's quite early in the season and this was a good one as a first triathlon, everybody is really friendly, there's a really nice camaraderie. Everyone is different shapes, sizes and fitnesses. It's a bit addictive as I'm going to sign up for two more triathlons, one of which is an open water event, and I'm also swimming a mile in the Thames in the summer!'
