Year 8 student Emma Turner has just recorded her best-ever swimming result, coming second in the county championships in her age category. Emma, who trains six times a week, also attended a special training camp with other swimmers from the Northants junior county development squad. The three-day training took place at Crystal Palace and, as well as improving their swimming technique the athletes also took part in circuit training and press-ups to build their core strength.
Emma said: 'The training camp really improves your determination because you see how well you can do if you train hard. You do a lot of work on your technique to make your strokes more effective in the water. It was a good time with lots of team-building.
'I'm also really pleased with the time I recorded at the county championships. It's a definite improvement on last year when I came ninth in my age-group. I'm now working towards improving my Midlands times and hope to go to the Midlands championships later this year.'
