Year 9 students have been learning about business techniques in a project led by Young Enterprise. As well as making products, examining cash flow, writing job adverts and trading shares, they got expert advice from business mentors.
The whole year group took part in 'Project Business' over two day-long sessions which were led by Mr Robin Neighbour. There were plenty of practical tasks with students being allocated a budget to set up 'companies' to make bracelets.
They had a budget to buy the raw materials, pay wage bills, cope with set-up costs and start trading. It showed them how cash flows between businesses and what returns can be made on investments. The students also looked at how businesses grow, customer relations and management techniques. After each task a 'company' was randomly selected to do a presentation to their peers.
Mr Neighbour said: 'We've had business professionals here over the two sessions who have volunteered to work alongside the students sharing their ideas and business acumen. The students have been very engaged and attentive on this project, coming up with some great ideas and working well in their teams.'
