Brooke Weston's boys' dance group have been busy in recent weeks, taking part in a showcase and a break-dancing competition. The boys, who have been dancing together since October, put in a polished performance at Latimer School, Kettering where groups from local schools and clubs each took to the stage. Their routine, to a track by The Omen, was well received, and they reprised it the following week when they battled with other break-dance 'crews' at regional heats of the UK BBoying Championship.
The competition consisted of a dance phase followed by a 'battle' where two crews had to face each other and perform freestyle moves. The event, which was held at Thomas Becket School in Northampton, was fast and furious.
Dance teacher Miss Bailey said: 'The boys put in some good performances, especially considering that they were the youngest group there and facing other groups that were all very experienced and purely break-dance based. Our students are all very enthusiastic and have a good mix of skills. Some are very big on break-dance but others have done a lot of contemporary dance and a little bit of ballet. We've got more performances lined up this year and the group is proving very popular. If anyone wants to join then they can contact me or else come along to rehearsals which are held in the dance studio after school from 16:15 to 17:00 on Thursdays.'
