An astounding 27 students have had their poems published after entering a poetry competition. The students from Years 7 to 9 composed Christmas themed poetry which were then entered into the Young Writers POP! The Power of Poetry competition which acts as 'a showcase of the best poetic talent selected from thousands of up and coming writers nationwide'.
Young Writers was established in 1991 to promote the reading and writing of poetry within schools and the winning entries are compiled in a hardback book. Students from 46 schools submitted winning entries and the entries are grouped by schools so the Brooke Weston poems are easy to find. POP! The Power of Poetry is available in the library so you can check out your favourite Brooke Weston poem.
Teacher, Tamsin Winter said: 'The pupils worked on their own individual poems during tutor time and after school. It's amazing that so many of them got their work published and I'm sure it will act as an encouragement to many of them.'
