The daughter of Brooke Weston's Chinese teaching assistant spent a week here experiencing life in an English school. Haiping Tan has been teaching Chinese language and culture to students here since September. In her final week her husband and 12-year-old daughter, Mengyao Huang flew to England to meet her and Mengyao joined members of the 8S tutor group for their regular lessons.
Mengyao, who has been learning English since she was young, said: 'It's very good here, my teachers and classmates are very kind. The study atmosphere is different. In China we have all our lessons in just one classroom, we don't move between rooms for different subjects like we do here. I can understand a little of what is going on and I like the food.'
Haiping and her family are now on a two week whistle-stop tour of the UK, going to Cambridge, Oxford, Newcastle, Edinburgh, the Lake District, London, Stonehenge and Bath before they return to their homeland.
Haiping said: 'It's been very good for me to be here, the school is very good, all the people, the students, the teachers, they are all very kind to us. I have been so happy here but it's exciting to have my family back!'
