Students from Brooke Weston supporting the Teenage Cancer Trust have collected around £2,500 from generous rugby fans. The Sixth Formers were given permission to 'bucket shake' at the Saints ground in Franklin's Gardens at their most recent game against Leicester Tigers.
The fans responded generously and the money raised will go towards the thousands of pounds the students have already collected through sponsored runs, parties and an X-Factor style talent show. They aim to raise £15,000 to go towards setting up a specialist unit for local teenagers with cancer. As well as having superior medical facilities, these units are equipped with day rooms, kitchens and chill-out rooms where teenagers can relax or have friends and family to visit in a comfortable environment.
Sian Haynes, Saints' head of community, said; 'This is a wonderful cause and the group have already made huge efforts in their fundraising. Saturday's game was especially fitting being an East Midlands derby, as the generosity of both sets of supporters will help teenage cancer sufferers in their region.'
