Year 7 student James Barry has won a £100 prize and a further £100 for the music department at Brooke Weston in a singing competition. James was one of eight vocalists who got through to the 'In Voice' finals. He sang two solos at the event in Finedon and his great performance earned him the runner up certificate, a medal and a cheque.
It was the first singing competition James has taken part in although he has done some stage shows before, most recently playing the part of Fizzy in Bugsy Malone. James also started the Brooke Weston carol concert with a solo of the first verse of Once in Royal David's City.
He said: 'I've been singing since I was really young. I've recently started singing lessons but I've been doing acting and have done lots of local shows in Corby.'
The In Voice competition attracted entries from 163 people and organiser, Jonathan Reynolds said: 'James performed superbly. The audience at the semi-finals were wowed by his rendition of 'Tears in Heaven' as were the judges who awarded him a place in the Grand Final. James repeated his semi-final song followed by a magnificent performance of 'Ben' and this was enough to see him take the runner up spot.'
Mr Reynolds will present James with his cheque and certificate at an assembly, along with a cheque for Brooke Weston's music department which be used to purchase microphone stands in recognition of James's singing talents.
