Year 10 students who completed a two year construction course in just half the time have received certificates from the Mayor of Corby. Cllr Peter McEwan invited the students, along with their parents and staff from Brooke Weston, to a presentation evening at the Mayor's Parlour in Grosvenor House.
The 13 students listened to a brief talk from several members of the council and the Mayor. This was followed by a buffet and presentation where they received completed folders of their work and their certificates.
The students attended the Corby Training Academy on the Oakley Hay Industrial Estate. Normally the City and Guilds foundation course, which covers basics in brickwork, electrical installation, plastering and plumbing takes two years but the students completed all their practical and theory work in just one, spending a day per week at the centre.
Those who received their certificates were Chris Paterson, Chris Guiver, Daniel Legg, Danny Robinson, Jake Stevenson, Stephen Squires, Jake Yeoman, Toby Jenkinson, Nathan Smith, Ryan Strachan, Alex Barrowman, Michael Rolfe and Scott Gagrica. Mr Mike Warburton from the Training Academy said: 'The Brooke Weston students were well motivated and extremely focussed on their work.'
