Calling all those with a bit of energy left to spare at the end of the school day… the dance club is open to anyone who wants to brush up on their moves. The enthusiastic members are currently working on street jazz and they are choreographing a routine for a public performance.
The students, led by teacher, Caroline Russon, are formulating a ten minute display which they will perform at the Willows Art Centre. They are used to devising their own dances, often taking inspiration from videos and other sources. At a recent session they took the poem 'Travelling in the City' by Ivan Jones as a starting point and then explored different ways of moving.
Caroline said: 'When the club started we guided the students a lot more – now we give them a motif as a starting point and they develop it. Everyone enjoys themselves.'
The display will take place in March under the 'Dance to Educate' scheme, where other schools, both primary and secondary, will also be performing.
