The Year 10 cricket team have had success in matches this season having beaten both Bishop Stopford and Latimer Schools in County and District Cup fixtures.
Their first game was a County Cup match against Bishop Stopford. Brooke Weston's opening bowlers, Sean Stanley and Chris Bradshaw bowled Bishop Stopford out for 40 runs taking three wickets each which left their side victorious with 41 for no wickets, the runs ably provided by opening batsmen, James Coles and Joe Daniels.
In their later match, the District League game against Latimer School, Coles and Daniels again opened the batting and faced some fast and accurate bowling from Latimer. 13-year –old Emily Ablott, playing for Latimer's boys' team opened the bowling and bowled her first two overs without conceding a run. She proceeded to dismiss Sinjin Bulbring's wicket after James Coles was bowled by Matt Tann for zero. Matt Tann continued Latimer's strong start to the match by bowling Joe Daniel for 1. This brought about the partnership of Joe Perkins and Sean Stanley who rallied to a partnership score of 72 runs. This ended Brooke Weston's innings scoring 76 runs off 16 overs with Joe Perkins scoring a strong 35 and Sean Stanley scoring 24 runs of which five were were boundaries. Brooke Weston scored 76 for 3.
With a target of 77 Latimer came in to bat and started strongly, with 13 coming off the first over from Chris Bradshaw. This was followed by Joe Perkins's over and he took the first wicket of the innings. Brooke Weston demonstrated an excellent bowling and fielding display to limit the opposition to just 43 runs and taking all 10 of Latimer's wickets. Bradshaw finished with 2 wickets for 20 runs, Perkins 2 wickets for 12 runs, Coles 1 for 4 and Sean Stanley with an excellent 3 wickets for just 5 runs. Combined with his batting display this earned him the Man of the Match accolade, with an outstanding performance also from Chris Bradshaw. With Latimer at 43 all out it meant Brooke Weston won by 33 runs and 7 wickets.
Teacher Mr Clasper said: 'We have had some very strong performances from this team and I hope they will continue their successful streak in our next District fixtures against Prince William, Montagu and Bishop Stopford schools which are coming up later this term.'
