Mr Shaun Houghton has taken over as Buildings Manager at Brooke Weston after 20 years in a similar role. Mr Houghton is already getting a feel for the building, shadowing colleague Barry Gibb and taking over the daily routines. He said: 'It's early days and I've got a lot to learn from Barry. Having been here almost from day one Barry's obviously very knowledgeable about the building.'
Mr Houghton has previously worked as a builder, and then was employed for 20 years as a site supervisor for Weatherby's in Wellingborough so the early morning starts, late finishes and unpredictable nature of the job are nothing new to him. He also oversaw the refurbishment and conversion of a factory building into offices, which will stand him in good stead with ongoing projects at Brooke Weston such as the refurbishment of the DT department and building of the new arts and media wing.
He has been impressed with how well preserved the College is. 'It's a fantastic building and well looked after. You'd never believe it's the age it is.'
In his spare time Mr Houghton is a vintage vehicle enthusiast and he owns a 1952 tractor and a Dodge weapons carrier from the Second World War which he displays at military festivals and the Imperial War Museum, Duxford.
