A group of GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition students explored a street food market and visited the Scoop ice cream exhibition at The British Museum of Food on a recent trip. The students, from Years 9 and 10 began the day sampling street food with many trying dishes such including jerk chicken nuggets, slaw and jerk gravy and Japanese rice bowls. Then they tried unique ice cream flavours including marmalade on toast and cucumber at the exhibition. It also included a wide range of ice cream memorabilia, a walk through freezer, an ice cream making session, glow in the dark ice cream and an opportunity for students to see the effect that eating ice cream had on their brain waves.
Food technology teacher Natasha Chiremba said: ‘It gave students a chance to rethink ideas about flavour combinations, both in the street food and also in ice cream production, so it was a thoroughly enjoyable and educational day!’
