Brooke Weston student, Megan Brown has been crowned Carnival Queen and she has already been undertaking official engagements, together with fellow student, Sophie Redman Baber.
The two had previously been crowned Carnival Princesses, with Megan winning Miss Oakley Vale and Sophie gaining the Gretton Princess title. They then had to attend a presentation evening where they were quizzed by judges in front of an audience before the results were announced.
Megan, from Year 10 said: 'They called out my name and I immediately started crying. It still hasn't sunk in!' Sophie from Year 7 was voted Deputy Princess and they both took part in a photo-shoot at East Carlton Park before getting down to the serious business of being in the carnival court.
They have already fulfilled three official engagements; having taken part in the Sport Relief Mile at Rockingham Triangle, been introduced to all the carnival committee and presenting the prizes at the Easter Extravaganza at the boating lake. For daytime and informal events the girls wear a 'uniform' of white jeans and coloured tops but they have to dress up in their full regalia of sash, tiara and long dress for more formal occasions. Their next official event is when they go to the Mayor's Parlour and are introduced to the town councillors.
Terri Meechan of the Corby Carnival Association said: 'Both these girls will, for the next year, be acting as ambassadors and representing the town at many different carnivals, functions and events as well as helping to raise funds for many of the local Corby charities and the Mayor's charities. We, as a committee, are thrilled and very proud of both these young ladies and are looking forward to a full and fun packed year.'
