Brooke Weston is bulging with newsprint as a bumper consignment of comics, magazines and periodicals has been delivered to the Library. Staff and students were asked to nominate their favourite reading material and so 20 monthly magazines and 15 weekly publications have been ordered.
The 'Month of Magazines' idea has been thought up to accompany the launch of the National Year of Reading which runs from April to December. Librarian, Mrs Heppell said: 'I got lots of suggestions for magazines and we've got a range in, from a yachting magazine through to the Beano and Dandy. There's magazines for everyone to enjoy, and multiple copies of ones that have been most requested, like Kerrang! This is not necessarily about getting people to read different magazines it's about getting them to really enjoy the stuff they do read and having more of it available in the library.'
Students and staff will be able to give feedback on the magazines and articles they have enjoyed the most. The copies will then be given away during Brooke Weston's annual Book Week, when guest speakers and special events are organised around a particular literary theme.
