Year 9 students considered issues of self-image during a visit from the Perspective Trust, a church-based youth organisation. The students did a workshop where they discussed the pressures upon them then considered how ideals of beauty have changed and how modern photo editing can manipulate images to portray a false ideal of beauty.
The Perspective Trust said: ‘Life as an adolescent can be pretty tough sometimes and we want to help young people with their transition from childhood to adulthood in all aspects of their lives. We also understand that working with young people can be as hard as it is rewarding and want to support and complement the great work that is going on in the schools and youth groups of our area.’
Faye Harris from the organisation said: ‘We were exploring issues that affect young people’s self image and the relationship the media plays in that. I also talked about those issues from a Christian perspective.
