Two Brooke Weston students, plus a sports team were presented with top trophies at the first ever Brooke Weston Trust Sports Awards, with many others being highly commended in their categories. Students Isobel Moxley and Amber Lincoln plus the Year 7 Sportshall Athletics team won their categories at the inaugural awards, which were held on Friday May 6 at the Core Theatre.

The Year 7 Sportshall Athletics Team won the KS3 Team of the Year, and Isobel and Amber were named BWT Sports Leader of the Year for their roles in KS3 and KS4 respectively.

Hundreds of students and parents from the 10 BWT schools attended the awards ceremony during which 18 awards were presented by special guests Baroness Sue Campbell, Chair of the Youth Sport Trust and former BMX World Champion, Mike Mullen.

BWT Director of Sport Kirstie Smith said: 'It was a great evening and a real celebration of the sport that happens across our Trust of schools. We recognise the importance of sport in young people’s lives and what it does to enhance well-being, build confidence and teach team skills.'

During the evening all nominees were invited onstage and the audience were told about their sporting achievements. Students and teams from Brooke Weston that received highly commended certificates were the Year 11 Netball Team for the KS4 Team of the Year and Linda Krasniqi and Bethan Lewis for Sportswoman of the Year. Dominik Cusk and Diana Parv were also recognised for the Outstanding Contribution Award at KS3 and KS4 award.

During the ceremony there were messages of support and congratulation from stars of England rugby and entertainment was provided by two dance pieces while BMxer Mike Mullen demonstrated a cycling trick with the help of Executive Principal John Henrys.

Throughout the evening the BWT Sports Ambassadors assisted with duties, ushering guests to their seats and providing support to the awards organisation team.
