Don’t forget to visit the Book Fair in the library to browse the latest range of books and stationery from Scholastic. The event is running until 5pm on Tuesday evening. Stationery starts at just 40p for pencils and books cost from about £3 upwards. Money off vouchers have been handed out to all Year 7 and 8 students and there are still some available, giving a £1 saving on books.
Many groups have already visited during tutor time and items can also be purchased during lunch time and after school. Parents are welcome to come in and browse the selection with their children at the end of the school day if they wish to see what is on offer. Although the fair has already proved extremely popular there are still lots of titles to choose ranging from classics and colouring books through to the latest releases by top-selling children’s authors.
Librarian Mrs Adams said: ‘I suggest people don’t leave it to the last minute to decide what to buy, and, if they don’t want books then there’s lots of knick-knacks and stationery as well. The most popular novels have been the Zoella books and Username: Evie, the authors of which are both popular YouTubers. David Walliams’s Grandpa’s Great Escape is perennially popular and there are also re-issues of children’s classics. Tom Gates’s books are also good choices as is The Lie Tree by Frances Hardinge and two-times Carnegie winner Patrick Ness’s most recent novel The Rest of Us Just Live Here. The fair combines the best of classic and contemporary literature and I still have money-off vouchers which can be requested on a first come, first served basis.’
