Two ‘exceptional’ career opportunities are available for current Year 13 students that will lead to well paid jobs and career progression within two diverse but well-known national organisations.
Wates Construction Group is advertising Higher Apprenticeships, including trainee quantity surveyors, to learn all aspects of the profession including cost planning, contract management and production. Careers adviser Mr Primmett said: ‘It is essentially a commercial management role but applicants also have to have a good technical understanding of construction processes. Travel to various construction sites throughout the UK is often required. There is a national shortage of quantity surveyors so salaries are high - averaging over £50,000. Applicants will need three A Levels or BTEC qualifications and the training will be to a professional or degree level standard.’
The second opportunity is with The Environment Agency, which is offering financial support to complete a Foundation Degree in River and Coastal Engineering and leading to professional roles within the Agency or local authorities. Successful applicants will be eligible for two year’s university tuition fees plus a training allowance of £14,000 equating to a package worth £32,000. Applicants will need A level maths.
Mr Primmett said: ‘Both roles offer excellent training and well paid careers and are some of the best opportunities available’.
