Our Year 7 students all received a free book courtesy of the library. The students were asked to choose their favourite from a selection of titles. The 180 books were gift-wrapped by library assistants, Louise Sharpe and Jennariece Robson, before being labelled and presented to its lucky recipient during tutor time.
The scheme, which has been running for several years at Brooke Weston, was co-ordinated by library assistant Mrs Heron, who said: ‘We told the students that there was a book survey and asked them to pick the one that they would like to read as we wanted the books to be a surprise. The most popular one was Flirty Dancing by Jenny McLachlan. The students were given a bookmark with all the Bookbuzz titles on and there were display copies of each in the library for them to look at before choosing which book they wanted the most.’
Emily Manning said: ‘This was a surprise. I like books with love and humour and mine has a mixture of them both. I’ll start reading it immediately.’
Harvey McTier said: ‘My book is about the war because it has got war planes on it and I chose it because it looked cool.' ’
Alex Church said: ‘I liked this book because the front cover was really interesting and when I read the first page I was already deep into the book and wanted to read the rest.’
