Students and staff from Brooke Weston had the opportunity to see top writer Charlie Higson, who spoke about his career and inspirations, during a visit to promote his latest book, The End.
As well as the popular Enemy zombie series Mr Higson is the author of many children’s books, including the Young Bond series and he also won a BAFTA for The Fast Show. His latest TV project is the Jekyll and Hyde series currently showing on ITV.
Eight students from Years 7 and 9, plus staff from Brooke Weston went along to see him at Corby Business Academy. Groundsman Paul Twamley said: ‘We got front row seats so we got a really good view. For the first hour and ten minutes he talked about his books, the definition of a zombie and how zombies have become more popular than vampires. When he had finished doing the James Bond books he wanted to write books for older teenagers and zombies were the way to go. He was promoting The End, the latest book in the Enemy series about zombies and he did a question and answer session at the end, as well as book signing. It was surreal to see someone in person whose books you have read for years!’
Librarian Ms Adams said: ‘Mr Higson is a really popular author so this was an amazing opportunity to hear about his work and to listen to his plans for future projects. He only does one week of visits per year so it was great that he went to CBA and we were invited along. Our students were thrilled to meet him and have their photos taken.’
