Our Year 8 students took part in activities designed to give them key skills in two days of workshops led by a local training and development organisation. The entire year group threw themselves into a range of indoor and outdoor activities led by Jeremy May and Insia Ishaji local trainers from Gateway Growth.
Jeremy said: ‘The workshops were based on mental toughness, resilience and negotiation. They did whole group activities including team-building challenges. The skills they are learning are transferable, so that they can take them back to their classes, their communities and their homes and have the confidence to make changes in how they see themselves.’
Insia said: ‘They have been working in teams of 30 and have done things from group discussion activities to building things, being very hands on and exploring core issues such as control, challenge, confidence and commitment in different ways. The students have been responding really positively. They have embraced the challenge and have learned more about themselves.’
