Sixth Formers John Dows, Alex Kularatnam and Oscar Hawkley have all taken part in the recent Swimathon to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care. It is the sixth time that John has completed the annual event and the second time for the others.
They swam a combined 200 lengths of Kettering swimming pool during the event last weekend and the team is hoping to raise around £100 each for the charity.
John said: ‘I did 80 lengths and Alex and Oscar did 60 each. We managed to do it in a new record for our team which was an hour and seven minutes, which means we were doing about 1.2m a second. We got quicker times than the Kettering lifeguard team which we are quite happy about. We have raised about £100 so far and are still looking for more sponsors.’
Alex said: ‘It was quite difficult near the start but after a while we just got used to it.’ Oscar added: ‘Last year I did the Walk 10 for Marie Curie which was to keep up my fitness and we are planning to do the Swimathon again next year.'
If anyone wants to sponsor the team then a link to their fundraising page is below and all donations will be gratefully received.
