Well done to all of our students who took part in the Sportshall athletics which were held at Kettering Leisure Village. Teams from Years 7 to 10 had previously qualified to compete in the indoor track and race events plus volleyball matches and our Year 9/10 girls came first in the volleyball with our Year 7 boys coming second in both disciplines and Year 7 girls attaining a third place.
One of the highlights of the county final was a talk by Olympian and GB middle distance runner Andy Baddeley who spoke about his career and the dedication needed to compete in top class sports.
Miss Barber said: ‘It was such a great opportunity for the students and they are all naturally talented. Disciplines include standing triple jump, standing long jump, vertical jump, track racing both individual and relays and they really put a huge amount of effort in. The members of all the teams that came first, second or third received a commemorative medal. Mr Shorrock took 32 students along for the sportshall athletics and five students for each of the boys and girls volleyball team, plus some sports leaders who ran the volleyball tournament.'
Afterwards Ben Tomkins, from Year 7, said: ‘I did the high jump and the shot put and we did well in it. Everyone worked together as a good team, we all did really well and I am proud of everybody. We came second overall.’
Team mate Liam Norris added: ‘My favourite bit was receiving the medals and when our school name was shouted out in front of everyone and they were clapping. I took part in the high jump, athletics and sprint.’
Ropafadzo Nyaruwa said: ‘It was fun and pretty challenging’ while Tanya Bizabani added: ‘I found it exciting, very cool and fun. My favourite bit was when we all did the relay because we all ran our fastest and encouraged each other.’
