In a drive to encourage young members to join the sailing club, Middle Nene SC in Thrapston has introduced a considerable reduction in fees for young family members. Those older than 12 and under 18 years of age will now only have to pay an annual membership fee of only £10 per person if they are part of a family group, reduced from £36. Children under 12 can join free as family members. The club has also decided to keep all other membership fees at the 2013 level for the forthcoming season.
This makes sailing an even more affordable sport for families, especially when considering the added benefits including: club-owned boats, junior training sessions and discounted formal training on the club's sailing courses, which are fully recognised by the Royal Yachting Association (RYA).
Middle Nene SC has a highly successful Youth Squad and is part of the regional and national sailing programme organised by the RYA, individual boat class associations and neighbouring sailing clubs. Young sailors from Middle Nene SC have participated with excellent results in various competitions and championships.
Middle Nene SC Commodore Julia Smith explained: 'The Youth Squad is a very important part of our club, and the basis for our continued success. We invest a lot in our younger members and our Youth Squad is second to none. By not increasing our charges and substantially reducing our junior fees we want to encourage young families to join Middle Nene SC, where they can benefit not only from a most exciting sport, but also from our varied and active social life.'
One of the best opportunities to find out more about saling at Middle Nene SC is their annual Open Day on May 4th (May Bank Holiday) from 11:00 to 17:00. The programme includes boat displays and trial sessions in various dinghies (weather permitting and subject to a capability assessment). Many expert members will be on hand to explain what sailing is all about and there will be a licensed bar and picnic area. Entrance and parking is free.
'We had a wonderful Open Day last year and we look forward to welcoming lots of visitors from our region in May. All details will be published closer to the date in the local media and on our website www.middlenenesc.co.uk ' added Ms Smith.
