The world outside of the school/Academy environment is an increasingly competitive place. Opportunities, whether for work, study or to pursue personal interests are generally limited, with access achieved through a competitive application process.
Academic achievement continues to be key to unlocking the door to opportunity but it is by no means the only ingredient looked for and our students need the skills, knowledge and experience of how to succeed when applying for these opportunities, to complement their academic achievements.
Within Brooke Weston's Year 12 IEC Programme this year, we are trialling a new initiative to provide students with training, support and experience in:
The programme is scheduled through Year 12 alongside the students’ other IEC modules. Students are trained in preparation of a CV before drafting their own. Based on guidance, they then experience the process of applying for one of a set of sample job roles for which they receive a telephone interview with feedback, followed by a face-to-face interview also followed by feedback. The objective is to build the students' skills and experience in these areas and the programme is supported by experienced professionals from a range of local businesses.
