Former student Paige Broughton led dance workshops for our students showing them techniques that she has learned at stage school. Paige studied dance at Northampton College and is now on a degree course at London Studio Centre in Finchley.
She was teaching contemporary dance to students from Years 8, 9 and 10. She said: ‘I had the best basic training and still use key things that I learned at Brooke Weston in my work now. I wanted to give the students an insight into things they will learn if they go on to study dance in more depth. Previously I have taught little companies and groups but it is this is the first time I have led a session in a school.’
Paige, who left Brooke Weston three and a half years ago, was one of 2,000 who applied for just 120 places at the London Studio Centre: ‘When I went in originally I was very focused on contemporary dance but it has opened so many different doors. Now I am doing singing and acting and am very interested in the acting side.
'At stage school we dance 25 hours a week and have 7 hours of theory. I have four lectures a week and do ballet every morning, jazz three times a week, contemporary five times a week. singing twice, drama twice and tap twice. My typical day is from 08:30 until 19:00 five days a week. It is manic but I am the sort of person who wants to train all the time. My dream job would be having the lead in a dance film, like Chicago but something, anything on the stage would be amazing so I am obviously going to work as hard as I can.’
