All of our Year 7 students will have an extra present this year, a book courtesy of Brooke Weston and supplied via the Bookbuzz scheme. Bookbuzz supports schools to encourage reading for pleasure and to develop a whole school reading culture. Each student chose their own book from a possible 17 titles, all of which have been selected by a panel of experts, including teachers and librarians.
Thanks to the library staff more than 180 books have been individually wrapped and now will be delivered to tutor groups before Christmas. The titles include three debut novels, along with two by TV favourites: Steve Backshall, presenter of BBC's Deadly 60, and Dr Chris and Dr Xand from CBBC's Operation Ouch! The star-studded list also features Charlie and Lola author Lauren Child and poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy.
Librarian Mrs Adams said: ‘Bookbuzz is a very popular scheme that has been running for several years. Although students can still borrow books over the Christmas holiday this is a great way for them to have their own personal copy to keep.'
