Mr Marcus Atkins is one of the mentors for our three Young Enterprise Teams this year, offering advice and professional guidance as they set up and run their own businesses.
Mr Atkins, a former Brooke Weston student, and two of his colleagues from RCI, are overseeing the projects. He said: ‘It is a business advisory role, to mentor, nurture and encourage certain ways of thinking that maybe the students don’t have access to in the traditional educational approach. It is bringing some of the real world business scenarios into the classroom. We have our own work commitments but try to come in every week to see how the students are getting on.
‘It is an interesting dynamic as each team has different projects, products, names and viewpoints. They all have their own identity and bring a lot to the table. Despite the challenges of having many team members Colour are cohesive and diligent. Icon is a very adaptable, flexible group. The team has changed a lot but they have come out with a fantastic product that looks very professional. Fusion are entrepreneurs with a lot of ideas. They are very driven and focused on the bottom line. The best part of the process is how much dedication they have, given the amount of additional hours they need to invest in planning and trade fairs. I am impressed with all of their performances so far.’
