Students within Year 11 have been invited to work in small groups alongside Year 13 mentors in order to provide them with explicit teaching support. Currently within science this cross-age mentoring is allowing our older students to take a tutoring role with some of our GCSE Triple Science students.
The groups meet once a week during tutor time and follow a structured revision schedule which will take them through some of the hardest concepts in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The benefits of peer mentoring are apparent with many students noting that they feel inspired and challenged when working alongside their mentors.
Mrs Hearne, Head of Science said 'Both the Year 11 and 13 students are very committed to the peer mentoring initiative, and there has already been significant impact with a noticeable development in the confidence and subject knowledge of both year groups'.
